I damaged the spring while connecting the upper and lower steam tube assemblies. I made the mistake of forcefully inserting the two ends of the spring into a single hole when it should have been inserted separately into each hole. A picture diagram, like the one they provide at IKEA, on how to properly insert it would certainly help. Anyway I ordered another one and this time it went in easily.
